Verizon delivered best overall download performance on 3G + 4G
Verizon delivered the best overall network download performance for typical user experience in the USA in the results shown in our September report.
3G & 4G Speed Test Results
(2MB download / 1MB upload)
Across combined 3G + 4G (indicating the overall download performance that users receive on average) and also 4G only results, Verizon stood-out as the leader in our tests, which simulate typical user experience.
“These results indicate that downloading a photo, or browsing a website would be faster on Verizon’s network than the others, based on over 1 million download tests.”
However, in our overall quality rankings which consider a combination of file transfer speeds as well as latency, jitter and packet loss (which can all affect overall application performance) T-Mobile stood out and achieved our top ranking among the five main US mobile network operators during the same period.
These findings were revealed following analysis of over 680 million data records gathered from Android devices between July 1 and September 30 2017, a total of 91 days.

About our testing
Tutela tests mobile networks by crowdsourcing anonymous sensor data from hundreds of millions of Android and iOS mobile users across the world. This enables us to collect billions of measurements every day and gain a real-world understanding of the mobile experience that mobile users are getting - not just in major towns & cities, but in all parts of the world.
Our testing methodology is designed to simulate typical user mobile behaviour, such as downloading a photograph or web page, rather than measuring the maximum performance, such as the peak download speed during a very large file transfer (which very few users will achieve) so that we can understand a typical user's experience.
