Orange lead 4G download speeds for the last quarter averaging speeds of 23.58Mbps, ahead of Bouygues, Free Mobile and SFR, who each recorded average speeds of 19.79Mbps, 15.73Mbps and 13.37Mbps respectively. Orange also lead regionally in Ile-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées.
As Orange continue to float the idea of a potential merger in the French market, the company have also been busy testing 5G capabilities across greater Paris and Île-de-France. The telco has already been testing 5G in the cities of Lille and Douai, and will also carry out new technical tests in Marseille using 5G equipment from its partner Nokia.

Similar to our last report, and at just 15.1ms, Free Mobile demonstrated the best latency results for the last quarter, leaps ahead of second place Bouygues who averaged 26.0ms. SFR sit at the bottom of the group, marginally behind Orange, with results of 28.8ms on 4G.
Orange demonstrate best network stability
Of the group, Orange also lead 4G network stability, with the lowest results for average jitter and packet loss. Bouygues also perform well for low average jitter, but are let down by their high packet loss, the highest of the four key players in the French market.
Our findings for France are based on 2.91 billion network quality measurements including 222 thousand speed tests between May and July 2018. Our latest complimentary Mobile Experience Report is available to download from the Tutela Insights portal.
