For the three months running May to July, our data shows Tigo leading 4G download speeds and overall download speeds across both 4G and 3G, averaging 6.90Mbps throughout Colombia. Movistar place a close second, with average speeds of 6.36Mbps, and Claro place third overall. Claro however do lead average 3G download speeds, inching ahead of Tigo who score 2.79Mbps on average, with results of 2.81Mbps.
Millicom, owner of Tigo, have recently raised $50mn to improve network connectivity in 7 countries including Colombia. Millicom state “both individual customers and businesses will benefit from better quality of service, including mobile broadband connectivity.”
Claro just ahead on our upload speed tests
As the first operator to launch 300Mbps home broadband in Colombia, Claro are also leading our upload speed tests. Although results for the last quarter are close to call, with Claro averaging 5.46Mbps on 4G, inching just ahead of both Movistar and Tigo who each average 5.43Mbps.
Tigo pip Claro to the post for latency
With results of 50.8ms on 4G, Tigo are marginally ahead of Claro to claim our top spot for the best latency of the group. Claro average 51.0ms and lead in Bogota, Antioquia and Valle del Cauca, whilst Movistar place third for latency with just 74.1ms.
