TIM and Vodafone jointly offer their customers the best mobile experience across Italy, with both operators having the highest percentage of tests meet the Excellent Consistent Quality thresholds, a metric that represents how often users with a signal get a connection good enough to stream 1080p video, conduct group HD video calls and engage in online real-time mobile gaming. This is according to a new report from global crowdsourced mobile data company, Tutela.
The report uses data sourced from over 1.4 million mobile subscribers in Italy, including over 20 million speed tests and 311 million latency tests, collected between May 1st and October 31st, 2019.
Other key findings from the report include:
- Vodafone came top for median download throughput and latency, with TIM second in both cases. Meanwhile, TIM came top for median upload throughput.
- Wind finished as the runner-up to Vodafone and TIM in almost all categories, and finished a close second place overall for upload speed. As Wind Tre moves towards the completion of its brand and network merger, we expect to see improvements to user experience for both Wind and 3 customers.
- Despite its relatively new entrance to the Italian market, Iliad is delivering a mobile experience that is competitive with the incumbent operators. With new 5G spectrum holdings and future commitments to continue building out its own network, we anticipate seeing Iliad’s mobile network performance continuing to improve.
Leandro Demarchi, Sales Director for Tutela in LATAM and Southern Europe, commented: “It’s particularly notable that all operators were comfortably over 90% for Core Consistent Quality - which means that, the majority of the time, users with signal had a connection that was capable of uses like standard definition video streaming or using social media. The next step for operators in Italy to close the gap between Core and Excellent Consistent Quality, and consistently deliver a mobile network experience that can easily handle higher definition streaming, or more intensive, real-time applications like video calls will be to continue deploying LTE-Advanced technologies, as well as boosting spectrum capacity and moving towards broad 5G adoption.”
